Green peas chutney is not very popular chutney but it is not less for both taste and health. It is made a lot in Haryana, India. In Haryana, there is often more chutney than vegetables in food. Especially in winters, when fresh peas start coming, then green peas chutney is made at home once a week. Green Peas Chutney is made by grinding green peas and some spices and is served with buttered roti or parathas.

Making green peas chutney is a very simple recipe and it takes very little time to prepare. Like mint chutney, coriander chutney does not take much time to prepare, similarly peas chutney can also be prepared easily. This garlic flavored chutney is also eaten with bajra roti.
To make green peas chutney, completely fresh or frozen peas can also be used. There will be a slight difference in the taste of green peas and frozen peas, green peas chutney is slightly more tasty than frozen peas, but if peas are not in season, frozen peas are also a good option.
Frozen peas are already slightly boiled / ripe, so there is no need to cook them separately for chutney, but if you are using green fresh peas, then they should be peeled and boiled first.

Ingredients Green Peas Chutney Recipe
- Green or Frozen Peas : 1 cup
- Green coriander: 1/2 cup
- Green chillies : 1 – 2
- Garlic : 5 – 7 cloves
- salt as per taste
- Black salt: one to two pinches
How to make Green Peas Chutney
To make Green Peas Chutney, if fresh peas is available , we should immerse it in boiling water for 5 minutes. In case of frozen peas, as these peas are already par boiled, we do not need to keep it in boiling water for long. We can soak it in warm water for 2 minutes. This will make the peas soft and its test will also be good. Now finely chop coriander, garlic and green chilies and put all these in a jar of a mixer.

Drain the water from peas and put it in the jar as well. Add salt and black salt to it. Black salt here is on your choice, if you want the earthy flavor of black salt, please go ahead or you can leave it as well. Black salt gives a nice earthy smell to the green peas chutney, which increases its taste even more.

Grind this mixture in the mixer. While grinding, add 1 table spoon of water to it. Grind the chutney and make a paste of it. If you find the chutney too thick now, then add some more water to it.

Now add lemon juice to it. The aromatic and tasty green peas chutney is ready. It can be served with various stuffed or plain paratha like Ajwain Parantha, Green Peas Paratha or Missi Roti as per your choice.
